The Sun is currently a G-type main-sequence star (G2V), approximately 4.6 billion years old. It fuses hydrogen into helium in its core through the proton-proton chain reaction, producing enormous amounts of energy. The Sun will remain in this stable phase for approximately another 5 billion years before exhausting its core hydrogen supply.
